A Walk on the Wild Side
Put your best foot forward when you stay at Resipole Farm Holiday Park. The ideal way to explore the area is on your own two feet. Whether you are an ambitious hiker, an enthusiastic rambler or a happy ambler there is a perfect path for you to tread here in the West Highland Peninsulas. Either head straight out from Resipole, jump on the bus which passes by Monday to Saturday, combine a cycle or kayak (bring your own or hire from a local supplier) with a walk or take your car for a further afield start and end spot.
Hikers Paradise
There are several more challenging hikes in the area, including our own Beinn Resipol which stands above us here at the Holiday Park. Getting up higher means even more spectacular views and on a clear day you can see out across to the Inner Hebrides and to the Nevis range.
Beach Life
If walking along the shore is more your style then we have rocky and sandy beaches to choose from. Resipole Farm stands on the shores of Loch Sunart - home to otters and wading birds, a perfect place to explore at low tide to look in the rockpools and watch the wading birds. If you are craving sandy beaches then Dorlin is a short drive away with a tidal island and the ruins of Castle Tioram to visit. Also within a short drive is the stunning white sands of Ardtoe beach, with views across to the Small Isles or the iconic Sanna Bay. Park up at Kentra and take a day to walk to the Singing Sands and back.
Woodland Walks
If you prefer a canopy of trees to walk beneath then there is no shortage of woodland walks to choose from. From the Ariundle oak woodlands in nearby Strontian, the Salen Alphabet Woodland walk around a beautiful lochan or the Bay of Flies, which takes you through fairytale like woodlands with carved wooden toadstools hiding in the trees and a magical bay of shells and sand at low tide. Also in Strontian there is Phemies Walk, beautiful all year round but especially spectacular in May when the woodland is carpeted with bluebells.
Moss, Lichens and Flowers
Our clean air and temperate rainforest conditions here in the west Highlands offer perfect conditions for an abundance of rare mosses and lichens. Clinging to trees, draped from branches and carpeting the woodland floor, this is nature’s own decoration and is home to many species of fungus and flowers too. Offering an ever changing palette of colours and textures, the area is exciting and inspiring to experts in plants, photographers and artists and anyone who is enchanted by wild spaces.
Wildlife
A walk of any distance will offer signs of wildlife; from herds of deer on the hills to eagles soaring overhead. A slow stroll allows for spotting footprints, nests or hideaway homes, a found feather or cache of nuts. Badgers, pine martens, red squirrels, red deer, otters and a whole host of birds and insects share this space with us and signs of them are all around.
Bring your walking boots and your whimsy, your binoculars and your sense of adventure!
